Center for Interdisciplinary Research

Varendra University is committed to the creation and dissemination of knowledge, in a range of disciplines and fields, and featuring the appropriate laboratories, libraries, and other infrastructures that permit teaching and research at the highest possible level. As a part to fulfill that mission, Varendra University has established a research center named “Center for interdisciplinary Research (CIR)”, aiming to promote meaningful research at this university by vitalizing research culture, liaising with relevant organs to harmonize teaching and research activities and introducing incentives that are conducing to effective utilization of the available competencies and abilities.

Research is an opportunity to make a difference and it is open to everyone and thrives on a diversity of approaches and perspectives. Around the world, countries have recognized that research in the universities is central to the knowledge economy of the 21st century. The Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh has been funding competitive grants to create centers of excellence. The National Education Policy of Bangladesh, adopted in 2010, espoused the need to expand the horizons of knowledge through creative, multidimensional, original and practical research. Research in the universities in middle-income countries has crucial roles to play in developing an effective academic system, and in making it possible for their countries to join the global knowledge society and compete in sophisticated knowledge economies. While research universities in the developing world have not yet achieved the top levels of global rankings, they are “extraordinarily important” in their countries and regions and are steadily improving their reputations and competitiveness on the international stage. Varendra University is determined to prepare its students for the future. The diverse academic strengths of VU, combined with our capacity for strong collaborations and synergies, will attract a rich and diverse group of external partners: other academic/research institutions, government agencies, industries, private sectors, national and multinational companies, and community groups, who will work with us to ensure our research is mobilized for maximum impact on Bangladesh.
