The World Antibiotic Awareness Week (Nov 18 - 24) is celebrated worldwide under the theme “Antibiotics: Handle with Care”. The Department of Pharmacy of Varendra University takes important and conscious steps in every year to celebrate this week for building massive awareness regarding rationale use of antibiotics. To keep continuation of this awareness program as like previous years pharmacy department has taken a lot of activities to celebrate the program in this year.
On the occasion of World Antibiotic Awareness Week-2019 in this year pharmacy department organized rallies, discussion programs, seminars and health campaigns in various colleges of Rajshahi Division with displaying of awareness posters at important places of Rajshahi city. A part of this program, on 30th November a seminar entitled “Antibiotics: Handle with Care” was held at Nachol Government College, Chapainawabganj. The ceremony inaugurated at 10:30 pm. Where the students of 9th batch in guidance of two assistant professor Monalisa Monwar and Md. Mahbubur Rahman of Pharmacy department were actively participated. More than 200 H.S.C students of Nachol Government College, Chapainawabganj attended the program. The key objective of this seminar was to raise the awareness and understanding of antimicrobial resistance and rational use of antibiotics through effective communication, education and sharing of knowledge.
Md. Mahbubur Rahman started the function with a short inauguration speech. Then the 9th batch student Sabiha Akter showed a slide presentation on antimicrobial resistance. The speaker delivered his speech mainly on antibiotic resistance. After presentation and discussion a quiz competition and prize giving ceremony was held.
At the end of the ceremony a brief closing speech delivered by Monalisa Monwar and she thanked to Sabiha Akter for her wonderful slide presentation. The Principal of Nachol Government College was given a CREST as a token of gratitude from the Department of Pharmacy, VU. The fruitful ceremony ended with health campaigning that includes blood grouping and measurement of blood pressure and blood sugar level.
