Department of Pharmacy, Varendra University celebrates World Pharmacist Day

World Pharmacists Day 2024 was successfully celebrated on September 25 by the Department of Pharmacy, Varendra University marking a global recognition of the essential role pharmacists play in healthcare. The theme “Pharmacists meeting global health needs” aimed to highlight how pharmacists contribute to improving healthcare delivery, medication safety, and public health.  The day began with releasing balloons and pigeon, cake cutting and a colorfull rally with placards addressing on the crucial contributions pharmacists make in healthcare systems. The honorable Vice-chancellor (in-charge) and Pro Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Ananda Kumar Saha, Professor Dr. Faizar Rahman, Treasurer, Registrar Suranjit Mondol, Proctor Dr. Habibullah,  Head (acting) Dr. Mst. Hajera Khatun, all the teachers and students of pharmacy department were present in this inaugural event. Then a seminar was held focusing how pharmacists can bridge gaps in healthcare delivery and improve access to essential medicines. Nurunnahar, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy, Varendra University provided the welcome speech of this session. The speaker Professor Dr. Mamunur Rashid (Dept. of Pharmacy, University of Rajshahi) highlighted pharmacists' role in ensuring medication adherence, especially in disease management. Md. Abdul Mottalib (AGM and Plant-in-charge, Team Pharmaceuticals Ltd. discussed the crucial role of pharmacists in drug production for meeting the global health needs in his speech. The last speaker Professor Dr. Md. Ajijur Rahman (Dept. of Pharmacy, University of Rajshahi) highlighted the pharmacists to take a more active role in patient care, particularly in hospital pharmacy, model pharmacy and community pharmacy. The special guest thanked  all the pharmacists across the world for their contribution to the society. The honorable chief guest Professor Dr. Ananda Kumar Saha sir reiterated  the need for continued advocacy to expand pharmacists' roles in healthcare. In closing session, the chair of this session provided her sincere gratitude to all of the guests, speakers, teachers and students for their wholehearted support and cooperation to make this event successful.
