On 7th April 2019 EEE department of varendra university organized a study tour to Northern Power Solution Ltd, situated at Katakhali, Rajshahi which is Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) based power plant in Rajshahi with the total capacity of 50 MW. It was a delightful day long visit to the power station where it involved the participation of 38 students of 9th and 10th Batch including with 5 faculty members from the department of EEE of Varendra University. The team departed at 9:30 a.m. and reached its destination at around 10.00 a.m.
On arrival, all the faculty members and students were greeted by the engineers and officials of Northern Power Solution Ltd. After delivering the introductory speech about the power station, the students were divided into 4 groups and were guided accordingly by their respective engineers in charge. The practical demonstration of the working principle of HFO based power station and a brief explanation of various machinery were provided to the students. Thereafter the participants were taken in several sites of the power plant, where the instructor elaborately discussed the function of primary and auxiliary equipment. Moreover, he has also mentioned about the fundamental principles of turbine, generator, sub-station, switchgear facilities and many other electrical components during his lecture.
At the very end, the Authorities of Northern Power Solution Ltd has praised Varendra University for taking a wonderful initiative for the engineering students to help them in understanding such an important sector of the electrical field. Department of EEE of VU extends their fervent gratitude to the authority of the Northern Power Solution Ltd for their support and conviviality. Rezwana Sultana (Assistant Professor, Department of EEE, VU), Dristi Datta (Lecturer, Department of EEE, VU), Tamanna Tasnim (Lecturer, Department of EEE, VU), Md. Arifuzzaman (Lecturer, Department of EEE, VU) and Tamim Hossain (Lecturer, Department of EEE, VU) also participated in this tour. The authorities and instructors of the tour were given crest as a token of appreciation and hospitality by the faculty members of VU. The tour came to an end with a group photo with all the authorities and the participants.
