The Department of Journalism, Communication, and Media Studies (JCMS) at Varendra University organized a seminar titled "Political Economy of Mass Media" today, Thursday (15 May). The event took place in Room 810 and was arranged by the Varendra University Journalism Club.

The keynote speaker of the seminar was Professor Syed Mizanur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Business at Daffodil International University and a distinguished academic. In his speech, he stated, “The key to understanding media lies in answering this question: Is the world in your grasp, or are you in the grasp of the world?”

His presentation highlighted contemporary media ownership structures, economic control mechanisms, and the influence of politics on mass media.

The seminar was held from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM. At the beginning of the event, Professor Syed Mizanur Rahman was greeted with a bouquet and a token of appreciation.

The seminar was presided over by Mr. Satil Siraj, Coordinator of the Department of Journalism, Communication, and Media Studies.
Also in attendance was Mr. Suranjit Mondal, Registrar of Varendra University, who warmly welcomed the guest and expressed his gratitude on behalf of the university.

Faculty members from the department were also present, including Tandra Mondal, Sayed Ibrahim Rifat, Aisha Siddiqa, and Fatema-Tuz-Johora.

In the concluding session, closing remarks were delivered on behalf of the faculty by Tandra Mondal, Sayed Ibrahim Rifat, Aisha Siddiqa and Fatema-Tuj- who expressed heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the guest.

The seminar proved to be insightful and inspiring for both teachers and students alike.
