"The Evolving Role of Hospital and Community Pharmacist in Post-COVID-19 Healthcare Delivery in Bangladesh: A Survey-Based Analysis."

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly reshaped global healthcare systems, particularly in developing countries like Bangladesh and India. This review highlights the evolving role of community pharmacists in post-pandemic healthcare delivery, emphasizing their contributions to public health, medication management, and self-medication guidance. It also reflects on the challenges of expanding their professional scope amidst limited resources and public misconceptions. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted from January to August 2023 to assess the roles, responsibilities, and professional backgrounds of pharmacists across clinics, private, and government hospitals in Bangladesh. Data were collected anonymously via email and social media, validated through professional credentials, and analyzed using SPSS version 25. Results: The findings revealed that government hospital pharmacists predominantly held diplomas, while clinics and private hospitals employed more graduates. Participants reported increased workloads, logistical barriers, and heightened responsibilities during the pandemic. Pharmacists with postgraduate education or more than 12 years of experience significantly contributed to COVID-19 response efforts, including drug counseling, therapeutic monitoring, and participation in research. Conclusion: The study underscores the critical yet underrecognized role of community pharmacists in public health during the pandemic recovery phase. Their academic qualifications and experience were essential in sustaining healthcare delivery, managing drug supply, and supporting patient care. Policymakers must strengthen their integration into the healthcare system through regulatory support and professional recognition.
