Rural-Urban Transformation, Energy Consumption, Economic Growth, and CO2 Emissions Using the STIRPAT Model for 8 South Asian Countries

Abstract
The objective of this research is to scientifically investigate how energy use, per capita GDP,
and rural-urban transformation affect CO2 emissions across all eight South Asian nations.
The STRIPAT model and panel data from 1985–2024 are used. The use of CUP-FM and
CUP-BC reveals that, across all South Asian nations, urbanization and economic expansion
have a positive and significant association with CO2 emissions. The findings also indicate
that energy use will reduce CO2 emissions. The study's conclusions point to significant
policy ramifications. According to the study's conclusions, policymakers should create
suitable long-term urban planning policies that can undoubtedly aid in reducing
environmental pollution and CO2 emissions.
