Awareness Leaflet Distribution Program Held by the Department of Pharmacy, Varendra University on the Occasion of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week
On the occasion of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2025, observed from 18–24 November, the Department of Pharmacy, Varendra University organized an awareness leaflet distribution program today, 24 November 2025, at various crowded locations across the city.
The primary objective of the program was to spread the important message that the irrational use of antibiotics especially taking them without a doctor’s advice or without a prescription—can weaken the body’s immune system and lead to antimicrobial resistance (AMR), ultimately posing serious long-term health risks.
Students of the Department of Pharmacy distributed leaflets at several key and crowded points in the city to raise public awareness. The leaflets highlighted the proper guidelines for antibiotic use, the harmful effects of taking antibiotics unnecessarily, their long-term impact on immunity, and essential steps to prevent antimicrobial resistance.
Participants in the program stated that antimicrobial resistance has become a global health threat, and raising public awareness is crucial in combating it. They also expressed hope that the Department of Pharmacy, Varendra University, will continue to undertake such initiatives in the future to play an effective role in enhancing public awareness.
