The Debate Wing of the Varendra University English Language Club (VUELC), Department of English, Varendra University, successfully organized the Intra-Department Debate Competition 2026 on August 20 2026 and on 23 August 2026.

The competition brought together enthusiastic student debaters in a series of intense group-round, knockout, and final-round debates. The event provided an engaging platform for students to demonstrate and develop their critical thinking, logical reasoning, argumentation, and public speaking skills.

Team Odyssey 2.0 emerged as the Champion of the competition, while Team Voice of Reason secured the position of Runner-up. M. Muzahid of Team Odyssey 2.0 was awarded the title of Best Speaker for his outstanding performance.

The competition was honored by the presence of Prof. Md. Shahidur Rahman, Head, Department of English, Varendra University, and Chief Advisor of VUELC, as the Chief Guest.

Hisham Mohammad Nazer, Assistant Professor; Nikhate Jannat Binte Zinnah, Assistant Professor; and Sadia Sabrina Alam, Assistant Professor was also present as the representatives of the advisory committee of VUELC.

A distinguished panel of adjudicators contributed to the successful completion of the competition. The panel included Md. Mahfujur Rahman, Senior Lecturer, Department of CSE, Md. Moinuddin Zahangir, Lecturer, Department of Political Science, and Abdullah Tamim, Research Engineer, CIR.

The event was organized under the supervision of Tanzid Tonoy, Lecturer, Department of English, and In-charge of the VUELC Debate Wing. The final round was also expertly moderated by him.

The event successfully fostered a culture of logical reasoning, constructive argumentation, confidence, and healthy intellectual exchange among students. The Department of English and VUELC extend their heartfelt gratitude to all participants, adjudicators, executive members, and attendees whose collective efforts made the Intra-Department Debate Competition 2026 a memorable success.
