Rajshahi, August 1, 2025 — The Department of English, Varendra University, successfully hosted an International Workshop titled “Innovative Research for Successful SCOPUS Publications” on Thursday, 31st July 2025, at the Varendra University Auditorium. The event brought together a distinguished panel of academic leaders, researchers, and scholars from home and abroad to explore strategic and innovative approaches to scholarly publishing. The keynote address was delivered by Professor Dr. Muhammad Kamarul Kabilan Abdullah, an internationally acclaimed academic from the School of Educational Studies, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Renowned for his expertise in TESOL, digital pedagogy, and educational innovation, Professor Kabilan holds a Ph.D. from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, and brings over nearly two decades of academic and research experience. His groundbreaking work in English language education and teacher education has earned him global recognition. In his keynote sessions, he emphasized the importance of innovative research design, interdisciplinary thinking, and digital adaptability to meet the standards of high-impact journals.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Professor Md. Shahidur Rahman, Head of the Department of English. The inaugural speech was delivered by Professor Dr. Md. Faizar Rahman, Treasurer and Vice Chancellor (In-Charge) of Varendra University, as Professor Dr. Md. Khademul Islam Molla, Honourable Vice Chancellor, could not attend due to an emergency engagement.
The event was further graced by the presence of, Professor A.H.M. Rahmatullah Imon, Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research (CIR) and Career Center, Professor Dr. Maswood Akhter, Director, Institute of English and Other Languages, Rajshahi University, Ms. Tanzila Shahid, Assistant Professor, Islamic University, Kushtia, who delivered a special talk on “Designing and Developing an EAP Module for Arts Faculty Undergraduate Students in Bangladesh.”
Moreover, a special moment in the event recognized the creative work of Md. Fiaz Ur Rahman, a student of the department, whose logo design was selected as the official emblem of the English Language Club. He was awarded a certificate and prize money by Professor Kabilan and Professor Shahidur Rahman.
The workshop attracted enthusiastic participation from faculty members, researchers, and students, enabling a vibrant exchange of academic ideas. The two sessions conducted by Professor Kabilan provided in-depth insights into the innovation, structure, process, and publication strategies essential for succeeding in SCOPUS-indexed journals.
The day concluded with closing remarks by Professor Md. Shahidur Rahman, who highlighted the department’s continued commitment to promoting research excellence and global academic collaboration.
