Department of English started its journey in Varendra University on 21 ^st September 2012. Currently it has been running its Graduate and Under-Graduate programs successfully. The programs aim at providing modern and extensive education in English Language, Literature and English Language Teaching (ELT) for preparing graduates equipped with knowledge and skills required for professional success in different sectors.

Bachelor of Arts in English program consists of 123 Credit Hours while Master of Arts program is of 39 credits. The programs include mostly the courses of English Literature; it also includes courses in English Language, ELT, Cultural Studies, Eastern and Western History and Philosophy, Media Studies, Literary Theory and criticism, Translation Studies. English programs also offer courses on Bangla History and culture and Literature and some other relevant courses to familiarize our graduates with indigenous culture and to create in them a wider insight in a multicultural reality.
